Who We Are

For over 40 years, the Wheeler High School band program has consistently worked to develop superior musicianship for high school students. The Wheeler Band program comprises many different facets including: the Wildcat Pride Marching Band, three large wind ensemble classes, colorguard, drumline, jazz band, and pep band.

The Wheeler Band relies on each member's unique talents, abilities, and perspectives to create our collaborative and family-like environment.

In the Wheeler Band, there's a place for everyone.

Wildcat Pride Marching Band

The Wheeler High School Marching Band is one of the largest student groups on our campus and includes students from across the school including the magnet program. The marching band competes regularly throughout the fall at independent competitions as well as performs at all varsity football games, pep rallies, and other community events. The Wheeler Marching Band brings the hype! Participating students work on goal setting, teamwork, and benefit from being a part of something bigger than themselves – the Wheeler Wildcat Family. We encourage ALL band students to participate in the Wheeler High School Marching Band!

Ensembles

The Wheeler Band consists of three large wind band classes including: Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band. Wheeler Band members have consistently represented Wheeler in the Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Band process, the Governor's Honors Program, and regularly perform for our community through on-campus concerts and participation in GMEA's Large Group Performance Evaluations held each year.

Every student who auditions for the Wildcat Band will be placed in one of these ensemble classes. Placement in each ensemble is based on criteria including: the audition, participation in All-State Band process, and general conduct and character.

Color Guard

The Color Guard is an auxiliary unit of the Wheeler Band and integral to the success of the program. In the fall, the Color Guard performs as a visual element of the Wheeler Marching Band as they execute choreography and dance with various equipment to enhance and interpret the music of the marching band show. They use equipment such as flags, non-functioning rifles, sabers, and other props. In the Spring, Color Guard members participate as their own individual groups called Winter Guards. The Winter Guards compete indoors with pre-recorded music but use similar equipment and perform choreographed shows. Both version of guard are about expressing and interpreting music through dance, gesture, and expression.

In addition, to formal concert performances throughout the year, the Jazz Band performs a several concerts outside of school hours and in the Wheeler Community.

The Pep Band’s purpose is to support organizations by providing energy and spirit to the atmosphere of their events and competitions! Pep Band primarily performs at home basketball games. Additional performances could include select softball games, soccer matches, baseball games, volleyball games, club functions, and other school related events.
