Hi Everyone!
I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable winter break! The month of March is always an exceptionally busy time for us in Band Land!! Just as sports are “in season” this is considered “in season” for concert band with our most important concert coming up. Please check calendars in advance and plan accordingly! All dates have been published and communicated since the beginning of the semester - check the syllabus, CTLS, This Week in Band emails, or band website. Please communicate with us if you have a conflict - you’ll find that we’re always willing to work with you - but you MUST communicate!
The GMEA All-State Band and Orchestra will meet this weekend. I will send more detailed information to those students as we get into the week, but I have attached preliminary documents in the schedule. Congratulations to Shachi Deo, Ore Fakiyesi, Misha Gupta, Steven Li, and Freddy Wu for being selected to represent the Wheeler Bands at the All-State Band festival!!
Finally, students, when you come in this week, you will notice that we’ve done some rearranging. We’ve moved the lockers out into the band room. There are a few reasons for this…. The foremost reason was to clean the locker room - it was absolutely disgusting - I’ll share the pictures with y’all in class. Additionally, we still need to paint the walls in the locker room but they still need to be cleaned. We’re hoping to acquire new lockers in the coming months/years, so we wanted to prepare the space in the back. Our current lockers have certainly seen better days and are ready to be updated. The lockers being out isn’t necessarily permanent, so bear with us!!

Reminders:
Any student that misses a rehearsal or performance, should fill out the Absence Report Form. The form can be accessed on the band website, the syllabus handed out at the beginning of each semester, the band handbook (also on the band website, CTLS, and we’ve discussed in classes.
Monday, March 6th is a CCSD Early Release Day. There will be NO Jazz Band that afternoon!
Next Thursday, March 9th is the first marching band leadership clinic for the 2023-24 school year. Any 2023-2024 Sophomore-Senior that is interested in auditioning for a leadership position should attend this meeting to get information about the audition process! The meeting will be from 4-6 pm.
PLEASE VOLUNTEER TO HELP SELL CHICK FIL A BISCUITS!! Chick-Fil A biscuits on Monday and Friday mornings has quickly become a popular fundraiser for the band program. Please consider signing up to help sell biscuits one or two mornings this semester.
